I grew up in Stowe, Vermont, in a family of woodworkers and maple syrup makers. The people there are as grounded as they come, and as much as I loved that, I felt the place was a bit too small for the bigger dreams I had in mind. To let my ambitions soar, I had to bid farewell to the cows and find a larger center of creativity, which for me was New York City. But it wasn't until I made it to Los Angeles that I returned to my roots of making furniture.
I moved our family of five into a large house with ZERO furniture. Whatever we needed, I built in our garage, just like our father did when I was a kid. What started as a hobby making a few pieces for family and friends blossomed into a passion for designing and learning how to craft modern furniture.
I was drawn to the mid century modern style because of the simplicity, the unadorned lines, and the use of woods in their natural state. Many of the designs you see in our store had their genesis in our own home (mostly out of necessity). We actually live with each prototype (and mistake) before it ends up in our store.
Since I established MODERNCRE8VE in Cleveland, Ohio in 2013, our style portfolio has grown to include the best elements of Japandi and Scandinavian furniture design. For over 10 years we’ve built a family of followers who appreciate our unique take on mid-century modern-inspired designs. We’ve married my designs with the world-class execution of old-world Amish craftsmen, who hand-make each of our pieces one at a time using domestic-sourced hardwood lumber. Our customers want to buy something once, put it to full use, and still be able to pass it on.
What makes us different is that we treat each and every order like we are making it for our own spouse or parent. We personally track every inquiry and curate every detail of every order, anticipating issues until we are proud of what goes out our door.
